Makes 6 sandwich buns.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups warm water
2 teaspoons yeast
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 1/2 - 4 cups bread flour
1 egg for an egg wash
Method:
Combine yeast, sugar and water in a medium bowl. Once it starts to bubble add the salt, oil and 3 1/2 cups of flour. Mix until there isn't any dry flour left using a danish whisk, then dump the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes. If it seems too sticky add 1/4 cup more flour. Form into a ball and place back into the bowl. Cover with plastic and let it rise for 1 hour or until it's doubled in size.
Dump the dough onto a floured surface and divide into 6 equal pieces. Shape into oval shapes by gently flattening each piece and roll like a cinnamon roll, pinching the seam together. Place seam side down on a parchment lined baking sheet and cover. Let them rise until puffy, 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Brush each bun with egg wash and score 3 slashes on an angle on the tops of each bun. Bake for 15 minutes. Cool and use for sandwhiches! We had them with French dip sandwiches and it was delicious!
